Anatomical Terminology - Body directions Sports med

Anatomical Position - standing with legs together, feet flat on the floor, hands at sides and arms facing forward.

Midline - the middle line of the body vertically (arrow pointing to it)

Lateral - injury farther to the vertical midline

Medial - injury closer to the vertical midline

Proximal - Closee to trunk of body (knee)

Distal - Farther from the trunk of the body (hand)

Thoracic Cavity - Chest

Abdominal Cavity - Abdomen

Pericadial Cavity - Where heart is located

Pelvic Cavity - reproductive organs

Ventral Cavity - Lungs and all other cavities.

Transverse Plane - divides the organs into superior and inferior sections

Frontal Plane - divides the organs into anterior and posterior sections

Sagittal Plane - divides the organ into left and right halves.
