PEW Political Typology Notes

A conservative group that is patriotic, highly religious, and predominantly white. They believe in a smaller role of government, oppose same-sex marriage, and do not support labor unions, racial equality, immigration, or renewable energy. They support weapons, the death penalty, and promote military size.

Politically active conservatives who want a more limited government and believe in individual success. They believe in the fairness of the justice system, equality of opportunity in America, and are critical of climate change. They favor foreign policies working with allies and maintaining a large military.

Right-wing conservatives with populist rhetoric who believe in putting people first and are critical of the economic system. They are undereducated, rely heavily on FOX News for information, and oppose large corporations. They believe that human activity contributes to climate change but do not think the government can solve it.

Republicans who are not as warm toward Trump or other GOP parties and have differing views on foreign policy and immigration. They favor smaller government and believe that good diplomacy is better than military strength for peace. They are younger, more racially and ethnically diverse, and more likely to support same-sex marriage.

A group split between Republicans and Democrats, financially stressed, and disengaged from politics with low turnout. They have mixed views, being liberal on economic issues and conservative on social issues. They support death penalty, free tuition, health insurance, abortion, weapons, and legal weed, but do not support defunding the police. They are not optimistic about the US.

Young Democrats who are discontented with the Democratic party and frustrated with the current political system and policies. They are not politically engaged, have diverse ethnic backgrounds, and feel detached from the political sphere. They support low-cost public education, higher taxes on large businesses, and are critical of the economic system.

The largest section in the Democratic party, actively devoted, and strongly support Biden. They prioritize criminal justice reform, healthcare access, and want a bigger government. They favor the US as the sole military superpower, want to expand the social safety net, and increase corporate taxes. They have a hawkish stance on foreign policy and support the death penalty.

Very liberal Democrats who don't want vast political change and are willing to compromise. They are highly educated, have high voter turnout, and are optimistic about the future. They support stricter gun laws, work towards racial equality, and have positive views on immigration. They want the Democrats to stay in power and believe in a bigger role for the government.
