inflammation of colon due to overtaking antibiotics to where the good bacteria is wiped out; persistent diarrhea so you need fecal transplant

appendicitis

when appendix gets inflamed, it ruptures so you need surgery fast or the bacteria will spread

cholecystitis

inflammation of the gall bladder

cholelithiasis

gallstones created by the gall bladder

cholecystectomy

surgical removal of the gall bladder

cirrhosis

chronic progressive disease of the liver, the normal liver becomes fibrous tissue; usually from alcoholism or too much tylenol

constipation

infrequent bowel movements with hard, dry feces from it spending too much time in the colon or too much fiber

gastroenteritis

inflammation of mucous membrane lining in stomach and intestines; caused by a virus, causes vomiting, diarrhea for 24-36 hours, dehydration

GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease)

when acid and stomach contents regurgitate into esophagus, from cardiac sphincter opening; heartburn, bitter taste in mouth, difficulty swallowing

hiatal hernia

when upper part of stomach bulges through opening in stomach; usually in older obese people, smokers; treatments are smaller meals, losing weight, not smoking/drinking, take medications from doctor

hepatitis

inflammation of the liver; A-spread through contaminated food, water; B/C-virus from blood or bodily fluids

IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)

contracts large intestines; cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhea, constipation; needs long term management, usually in women

peptic ulcers

sore or lesion in mucosal lining of stomach; from H Pylori bacteria or stress, alcohol, smoking, drugs; causes burning pain in abdomen between meals; take H2 blockers as treatment

colon cancer

most dangerous form, need a colonoscopy to detect; will need a colon resection

diverticulosis

little sacs (diverticuli) that develop on the walls of the colon

crohn's disease/ulcerative colitis

autoimmune disorder, inflammatory bowel disease; causes abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, malnutrition

jaundice

yellow color when bile pigment gets in the bloodstream; liver isn't working properly

pancreatitis

inflammation of pancreas; cause unknown except may be from alcoholism

pyloric stenosis

narrowing of the pyloric sphincter that blocks the passage of food from the stomach into the duodenum; causes projectile vomiting and will need surgery

diarrhea

loose watery frequent bowel movement when feces passes through colon too quickly , can cause dehydration; from infection, poor diet or toxic substances

bolus

soft, pliable ball-created from chewing food and it mixing with saliva-that goes down esophagus

peristalsis

wavelike motions that moves food through digestive organs

double layered membrane that lines abdominal cavity
