Headright system:

In order to get free land you had to be a white male, head of the household. For every family member you were able to get additional land per person. You could get a maxium of 1,000 acres. "Fisrt come, first severe", was the motto they went by.

Yazoo Land fraud:

The 4 companies could sell their land for many times more money than what they bought it origanily. They ripped lots of people off, and the people were very upset. The federal government had to buy Missispi and Alabama back. That is more than double Georgia in land size. This went on at the end of the Headright system.

Land Lottery:

You could buy a ticket to get put in a drawing to win free land. Women were also allowed to get in the drawing. They drew names and the peice of land that you got. So just because your name got drawn doesnt mean you got a good peice of land. They made a little money from selling tickets. They did them as needed (as they were trying to bring as many people yto Georgia as possible).

Georgia's main focus has been set on agriculture for years. The main reason was to bring people to Georgia, by earning more money, it brought more people to Georgia. The us was growing very quickly once the war was over. People came into Goergia to sell cotton

Cotton Gin:

The cotton gin helped improve the prosses of cleaning and providing cotton. It made seperating the cotton fiber and seeds so that people didn't have to do it manuely. Eli Whitney, was the original creater of the Cotton gin. This means they were able to grow a lot more cotton than before. This means the cotton industry boomed within the next couple years.

Railroads:

After the cotton gin, the railroads were invented. They came up from steam ebgines, which is what type of engines that had used in boats. The cotton indusrty neede to ship cotton to bigger cities to keep their industry up, so the invention of the railraods really helped them out. The southern states grew all the ag commmottidys, and the north had all the factories, so the south neede to ship all their cotton to the north. After the first 3 railroads, they just started to become more and more common.Atlanta was a end piont to a railroad, which is how Atlanta became what it is today.
