  • Context has two levels, immediate short term, and broad long term

  • Context is how certain historical circumstances shape a larger event

  • Africans, Native American tribes, and Europeans coming in contact with each other resulted in the Columbian Exchange

  • Europeans brought goods such as turkeys, pineapples, peanuts, and tomatoes from America into Europe

  • Europe brought goods such as pears, coffee beans, bananas, and onions into America

  • Various livestock and diseases were also brought into America

  • Portugal colonized most of the west of South America

  • France colonized most of the current day Northern United States and Canada

  • Britain colonized Western Canada and a small amount of Western United States

  • Russia colonized the area around Alaska
