Cordillera is a Spanish word that means a chain of parallel mountain ranges. These are young fold mountains which run almost parallel to each other. They extend from Alaska to Panama north to south (6500 km) and rise steeply to the western side. They are the widest in the middle about 1500km

TOPIC-The canadian shield

The region around the hudson bay is occupied by the canadian shield or laurentian shield. It has been made of old hard rocks. During the last ice age it had been entirely covered with glaciers. It has been extensively eroded by ice and so its height has been reduced

TOPIC-The appalachian mountains

The other name for Appalachian mountains is eastern highlands.They are present at the western coast and are old fold mountains. Due to large scale erosion their height has been reduced, Their average height is about 1500m.
