What is the Industrial Revolution?

It took hold in the United States in New England around the 1800s. It was a time technology took hold of the United States. Factories began to grow as well.

Why did the Industrial Revolution take place in New England?

  1. Rivers and streams provided waterpower to run the machinery.

  2. New England had resources, such as coal and iron.

  3. Traded with the Southern Colonies’ cotton from the South and finished cloth from New England.

Because he made the cotton gin which made things more efficient because it could clean/separate seeds from the cotton as fast as 50 people picking it by hand.

What did the canals do to make the United States better?

It allowed travel to be faster, and allowed goods to be shipped. It brought prosperity to the towns and united the growing country.

Robert Fulton. With steamboats, you could go upstream, carry goods, and carry people.

What was life like for a Mill girl?

Their life was hard because they had to leave their families.  Then they would work in a mill that was sometimes locked for more than 12 hours. The only lighting they had was candles so there might have been a lot of fires.
