Technical Drawing
is composing drawings that visually communicates how something functions. Using different perspectives, universal symbols, and different styles for different circumstances, we use technical drawing as a language to communicate efficiently and effectively.
Mechanical Drawing/Drafting
is completed by hand and drafting tools aid the process.
Sketching
freehand drawing which communicates the same idea, but rapidly and loosely.
Why do sketching and mechanical drawing differ?
Mechanical drawing differs from sketching because sketching is more artistic and open to interpretation, while technical sketching is accurate and descriptive.
CAD (Computer-Aided Design)
The use of a computer to assist in the process of designing a part, circuit, building, etc.
Rendering
the process of adding color and shape to add realism, emphasis or clarify information in the drawing. (1) Can be done by hand with pencil, pen, marker, pastel, water color, etc. (2) Can be done with CAD software. (3) Can even scan hand drawings and render them in photoshop or other software.
Types of Technical Drawings
oblique [cabinet/cavalier], isometric, perspective, orthographic projection
