does it work
simulation objective
• Project objective is clear cut and implies a model is to be used to evaluate a
concept and determine if it meets a performance objective
• Often used to test various alternatives for comparison
• Provides a yes or no answer to the problem being modeled
• Easier to estimate and involves little “what-if” scenario testing
making it work
simulation objective
• Used when a problem exists and the simulation analyst must
experiment with the system until a solution is found
• Estimation an accurate completion date for models with this
objective can be very difficult
• It is not known prior to the simulation process how many different
scenarios must be investigated before a solution is discovered
Intelligence Phase
steps:
- understanding of the underlying dilemma or problem
- define the objectives
- define the questions that need to be answered
- answer generally feasibility
Managerial Phase
steps:
- facilitates organizational involvement in a
simulation project
- development of proposals
- securing a budget
- acquiring managerial support
- forming a project team
Developmental Phase
steps:
- developing a representation of the
system
- system components or elements must relate
to each other in such a manner as to create a
connected whole
- securing a budget
- acquiring managerial support
- forming a project team
Quality Assurance Phase
• can be done through interaction with end
user and management
• is an ongoing process
• validation through measurements
Implementation Phase
- model use begins
- decision support activities take place
- design an implementation plan
- output analysis happens
Operations, Maintenance and Archival Phase
o development is essentially complete and
only maintenance task remains
o may be substantial if the project results in a
simulation maintained for repeated use
