A tactic used by German General Falkenhayn, wanted to wear the French down by sending their men out to constantly fight them until they lost a majority of their army. This tactic was partially successful because they did lose men, but so did the Germans. This tactic caused the stalemate to end.

plan was to win a two front war, quickly defeat France then turn around and defeat Russia. The plan fails because Belgium refuses to let Germany through.
