Equipment Gallery Walk

  • Beaker

    • Used for stirring, mixing, or heating liquids.

  • Erlenmeyer Flask

    • Used to mix, heat, and store liquids. These flasks are not used to accurately measure volumes of liquids.

  • Pipette

    • Come in various sizes and are used to transport accurate volumes of liquids.

  • Pipette Bulb

    • Pipet bulbs are used to draw liquids into the pipet.

  • Burette

    • Is used to dispense accurate volumes of liquids.

  • Graduated Cylinder

    • Used to measure volumes. To accurately read the volume of a liquid, read the bottom of the meniscus.

  • Test Tube

    • Used to hold, mix or heat very small amounts of solids or liquids.

  • Test Tube Rack

    • Test tube racks hold and help organize test tubes during experiments.

  • Test Tube Holder (Tongs)

    • Is used to hold a test tube when it’s hot or when it’s not safe to use the hands.

  • Ring Stand

    • Provides a safe base to hold and clamp glassware and pieces of lab equipment.

  • Wire Gauze

    • Placed over the ring clamp to support beakers and flasks over a flame

  • Clay Triangle

    • Used to support a funnel or crucible with an iron ring

  • Crucible Tongs

    • Hold Crucibles only. They have long handles and the tips are serrated to give better grip.

  • Crucible and Cover

    • Small porcelain container used to heat substances to very high temperatures.

  • Evaporating Dish

    • This is used to get the water out of a solution, evaporate out the water. The watch glass is placed on top to prevent spilling.

  • Watch Glass

    • Used as a surface to evaporate liquids, to hold solids that are being weighed, or to cover beakers.

  • Wash Bottle

    • Used in the clean up phase of an experiment.

  • Volumetric Pipette

    • To transfer that volume of liquid for use in creating a solution or dilution.

  • Volumetric (Florence) Flask

    • Used as a surface to evaporate liquids, to hold solids that are being weighed, or to cover beakers.

  • Temperature and Pressure Probes

    • Measure the stagnation pressure, the static pressure, and the flow angle within a fluid stream.

  • Barometer

    • To measure atmospheric pressure

  • Funnel

    • Used to channel liquids into containers that have small openings.

  • Test Tube brush

    • Used to clean test tubes and graduated cylinders.

  • Glass Stirring Rod

    • Used to stir and decant solutions.

  • Bunsen burner

    • Used to heat solutions and other chemicals in the lab.

  • Forceps

    • Used to pick up small items.

  • Ring Clamp

    • Attached to the ring stand to support and hold glassware such as crucibles beakers

  • Mortar and Pestle

    • A bowl made of ceramic to crush and grind soils.

  • Spatula

    • Transport and distribute dry chemical compounds

  • Scoopula

    • Utensil used in chemistry to
      transfer solids.

  • Rubber Stoppers

    • These come in all different shapes and sizes and they are used to seal off a container.

  • Tripod

    • Lab a piece of equipment that supports other equipment like the clay triangle or wire mesh that can be used of the ring stand.

  • Beaker Tongs

    • These are used to carry hot beakers after heating.
