Plural words notes

When making a word plural

• El=Los

• La=Las

When making a word plural If there is already a vowel at the end of the word then put an S if there is no vowel as the end puts an ES. The only exception to this rule is if it ends in a Z makes it CES.

Examples:

• El papel = The paper (Male)

• Los lapices de color = The colored pencils (Male)

• Lapices de cera = crayons

Crayons is an unofficial spanish word and many people use it but it's not officially recognized.

• La carpeta = The folder/binder (Female)

• El diccionario = The dictionary (Male)

• El pupitre = The student desk (Male)

• El libro (El texto)= The (text) book (Male)

El texto de ____ = The _____ textbook

• Las tijeras = The scissors (Already plural) (Female)

• El dinero = The money (Already plural) (Male)

• El marcador = The marker (Male)

El piloto = A slang version of El marcador (Male)

• El telefono celular = The cellphone (Male)

• El borrador = The eraser (Male)

• La goma = The eraser (specific countries use this)

• La perforadora = The hole puncher (female)

• La engrapadora = The stapler (female)

• El sacapuntas = The pencil sharpener (Male)

El sacapuntas only needs to change to los sacapuntas because it already has a s at the end.

• La botella de agua = The water bottle (female)

• La mochila = The backpack  (female)

• La papelera = The wastepaper basket (A trash can only for paper) (female)

• El proyector = The projector (Male)

• La pizarra = chat-board (female)

• El tablero blanco = The white board (Male)

• El tablero inteligente = The smart board (Male)

• La puerta = door  (female)

• El ordenador portátil = The laptop (Male)
