Physics chapter 2

statics

  • the study of how object behave when they are not accelerating

Equilibrium

  • there can be forces on an object, but there can not be net forces on it. Otherwise, that net force, would make the object accelerate.

=> if an object Is in equilibrium then all of the forces and torques on it have to balance out

Torque

  • net torque changes an object's angular velocity. It makes things rotate faster or slower

perpendicular force

M=Fxl

Moments

  • A moment is the turning force around a fixed pivot.

  • if something is balanced or in equilibrium then the moments are equal and opposite, therefore they cancel each other out.
