9.3 Electron Configurations: How Electrons
The actual electron configurations do not always conform to the general pattern.
The patterns described here allow us to accurately predict electron configurations for most elements in the periodic table.
The chemical properties of elements within a column in the periodic table are the same.
Two electrons form cations.
They are only one electron short of a noble gas configuration and form 1- ion when they gain that electron.
These elements form ion with noble gas electron configurations by reflecting their charges.
