RESPONSIBLE PARENTHOOD AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH BILL OF 2012 (RA 10354)

  • It is a law which guarantees universal access to methods contraception, fertility control, sexual education, and maternal care

What is Reproductive health? - It refers to the state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease relating to the reproductive system and to its function.

What is Family Planning? - Provides information and means for couples or individuals to have the desired number of children that they can responsibly raise

Importance of family planning to our country and the world

  • With the exponential growth of population in the country and the world, resources are being more used more rabidly.

  • Population growth has been a source of numerous economic problems.

REPONSIBILITIES OF PARENTS

  • Parents plan and work to meet the goals of their family.

  • Parents respond to the need of their children

  • Learn about age-appropriate development to have realistic expectations.

  • Teach rules to ensure the health and safety of the children

  • Teach with positive attitude

  • Give love and affection

  • Provide economic security

  • Raise children in a stable, secure family that is free form abuse and etc.

Family planning method

  • Natural method – allowed by catholic church

  • Artificial method – use of contraceptive devices or medicines which is being promoted by the RA 10354.

SEAT BELTH USE ACT OF 1999 (RA 8750)

What is RA 8750? - Requires the mandatory compliance by motorists of private and public vehicles to use seatbelt devices.

What is the aim of this law?

  • Driver and front seat passengers while inside a running vehicle should always use seat belts

  • Children 6 years old and below should not be in the front seat

  • Signs should be posted instructing front seat passengers

TOBACCO REGULATION ACT OF 2003 (RA 9211)

  • It is an omnibus law regulating smoking in public places, tobacco advertising, promotion and sponsorship and sales restrictions.

  • Designate areas for smoking must be placed in public places that are open and separate areas with ventilation.

Purpose of this law

  • To promote a healthful environment. And inform the public about the bad effects of this tobacco.

  • To protect the youth from being initiated to cigarette smoking and tobacco use by prohibiting the sale of the products to minors.

DANGEROUS DRUG ACT OF 1972 (RA 6425)

  • A policy imposed by the government to deal with the state’s problem with illegal drugs, particularly how it affects the youth

  • The penalty ranges from 6 months for possession of drug paraphernalia to life sentence or even death sentence.

Aim of this law

  • Protect the integrity of the Filipinos from the harmful effects

  • Pursue a serious and an intensive campaign against the trafficking and use of dangerous drugs.

  • Make sure that people with legitimate medical needs are not adversely affected by this program

  • Provide effective mechanisms or measures to re-integrate into society.

PHILIPPINE AIDS PREVENTION AND CONTROL ACT OF 1998 (RA 8504)

  • Promote public awareness about the following issues related to HIV/AIDS

What is aids?

  • Acquired immune deficiency syndrome is a condition characterized by a combination of signs and symptoms caused by HIV contracted from another person.

  • HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) a virus infection that attacks the body’s immune system.

NATIONAL BLOOD SERVICES ACT OF 1994 (RA 7719)

  • An act promoting voluntary blood donation, providing for an adequate supply of safe blood, regulating blood banks and providing penalties for violations.

Importance of this law

  • Promotes and encourages voluntary blood donations

  • Mobilizes all sectors of the community to participate in mechanisms for voluntary and non-profit collection of blood.

  • It informs the public of the need for voluntary blood donation to curb the hazards caused by the commercial sale of blood

NATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS ACT OF 2008 (RA 9512)

  • Articulates that the state shall promote national awareness of the role of natural resources in economic growth and the importance of environmental conservation and ecological balance towards sustained national development.

SHALL IMPLEMENT THE LAW

  • The Department of Education (DepEd)

  • The Commission on Higher Education (CHED)

  • The Technical Education and Skill Development Authority (TESDA)

  • The Dept. of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in coordination with the Dept. of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR)

  • The Dept. of Science and Technology (DOST) and other relevant agencies
