he second son of a noble family. After a brief career in the military, he decided that politics was his true strength. His ability to manipulate political situations to further the cause of Italian unification made him a valuable leader.

Giuseppe Garibaldi

a nationalist soldier and military leader who effectively used guerilla tactics to win military victories throughout southern Italy. In his earlier years he was a member of Mazzini's Young Italy, where he began his involvement in the cause of Italian unity.
