The purpose of fair trade is to ensure fairer terms of trade between farmers and buyers, protect workers’ rights, and provide the framework for producers to build thriving farms and organizations.

The core countries gain profit and commodities and the periphery countries also gain in an economic standpoint.

Farmers can cultivate crops in these rugged tropical wet climate regions by building “steps” or terraces into the steep slopes and creating paddies for cultivating water-intensive crops such as rice.
